Individual sessions

Individual sessions are appointments between you and me.  A time and space to really prioritize yourself.  These sessions are typically 45 minutes once per week.  This frequency and time for sessions is encouraged as it allows for consistency and deepening of the work.

These sessions are truly a space for YOU and although I am there alongside you, my intention is to help you move into a space where you are living a more authentic and aligned life.

 2.

Couple sessions

The truth is, while relationships are such an important part of so many people’s lives, they also take work!

Couples sessions can help to provide different perspectives, gain greater understanding of your partner(s) and your relationship, communicate in more effective ways, and hear and see each other in new ways. Couple sessions are typically 60 minutes once per week.

Group sessions

At different times throughout the year, weekly process-oriented groups or topical groups for adults are offered. Group provides an opportunity to gain an understanding of how you relate to yourself and others. The power of process groups, in particular, is the opportunity to receive/provide feedback, support, and different perspectives in the moment in a safe and confidential environment.

*Please contact Dr. O'Brien to learn more about process groups and other topic groups that are currently being offered or that you would be interested in participating in.

I offer workshops and trainings in the community on various mental health and wellness topics.  If interested in learning more or connecting with me for workshop or training topics and scheduling, please feel free to reach out.

Contact me or check out my social media to stay the most updated about different groups, workshops and other events that may be happening!

 Investment & scheduling

Making the decision to enter therapy is an important and personal one. It is making the decision to invest in and prioritize yourself and your well-being and is ultimately a commitment. Clients who I work are able to commit to weekly sessions. This frequency and time allows for consistency and deepening of the work.

FAQ

  • I work with clients virtually using a HIPAA compliant video platform.

  • Initial sessions (AKA intake appointments) are typically 60 minutes. This session is more structured than following appointments and provides an opportunity to get to know you better. We also talk about goals and what sessions may looks like moving forward. Sessions after this are 45(ish) minutes, on average. Sessions occur on a weekly basis scheduled in a standing appointment time.

  • The length of time an individual is in therapy varies from person to person often depending on treatment goals and other factors. During our time together, we will work collaboratively to determine a plan.

  • You must cancel within 48 business hours of your session time, or you will be charged the full rate of your session. This allows us to offer the time slot to someone else who may want it.

  • I am an out of network provider, which means that I do not accept insurance directly. This minimizes the amount of information that I am required to provide regarding mental health treatment and allows for increased flexibility of treatment.

  • In many cases you may be eligible to use out-of-network insurance benefits. You will be responsible for paying for each session in full at time of appointment.

I work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed. This service will be provided at no cost to you.

Note: Mentaya's goal is to save you time and money. It's completely optional, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from your participation.

  • If you have out-of-network benefits, they typically will reimburse you for 60-80% of the cost of each session.

If you’d like, I will submit claims to your insurance company on your behalf via Mentaya.

  • Your out-of-network benefits are usually pretty straightforward to use. To make things even simpler for you, I’ve partnered with a company, Mentaya, who will submit your claims to your insurance company at no cost to you.

Should you decide to submit on your own, most insurance companies have you upload your monthly superbill online and then they will mail you a check with your reimbursement.

It’s always a good idea to call the number on the back of your health insurance card listed under Member Services.

You can ask them the following questions:

    • Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health coverage? Am I able to use these benefits for telehealth?

    • What is my out-of-network deductible?

    • How much of my deductible has been met this year?

    • Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see someone out-of-network?

    • What percentage of outpatient psychotherapy sessions are covered per session?

    • How much will I be reimbursed for a 45 minute psychotherapy session (CPT code: 90834)?

    • How do I submit claim forms for reimbursement?

    • How long does it take for me to receive reimbursement?

  • I offer a limited number of reduced rate slots (as of July 2024, these are all full). If this is a priority for you, the following is a list of organizations that offer resources:

    • Open Path Collective (openpathcollective.org)

    • Open Counseling (opencounseling.com)
